T20 World Cup 2024 Tournament Format

The largest T20 World Cup in the history will comprise of three main stages

• An initial group stage
• Supper Eights stage
• Final round

The 20 teams will be divided into four major groups, each comprising five teams for playing the initial stage matches. The top two teams to progress after each nation plays their other four group members. The teams who win will receive two points while one point for no result match. Super Over will decide the game-winner I the game “tie.” Group A will play all its matches in the United States and Group D will play the first six matches there. However, the remaining four will be divided between St Lucia, St Vincent, and the Grenadines.

Following the initial group round, the top two teams from each of the four groups will lead to the Super Eight stage. Teams seeded first and second in their groups in the first round will keep their place in the following round, regardless of their final place on the group table, showing they qualify for the Super Eight stage.

England is seeded first in Group B, followed by Australia in second, hence the Australians will enter Group 1 as B2 in the second round regardless of their place on the schedule table. If an unseeded team advances out of their group, they will assume the seed of the team they eliminated. If there are two unseeded qualifiers, the bracket will default to ladder place. All Super Eight round matches will be organized in the Caribbean.

If there are no major shocks in a T20 tournament and all of the seeded teams go further in the game, Australia will face Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and India in that sequence in their three Super Eight matches. The top two teams from each group in the Super Eight will progress to the semi-finals. The final will take place in Barbados.
